Supporting Haiti

Black lives matter from Haiti to the Bay!

Learn About Haiti… the struggle for freedom.

This reading of Until She Spoke from Lecture on Haiti by Frederick Douglass. The “she” referred to is the nation and people of Haiti. Haiti became the world’s first Black-led republic and first independent Caribbean state when it threw off French colonial control and slavery in the early 19th century.

As part of our Conversations with your Friendly Neighborhood Black Guys series, we created this film about Charles Deslondes with Pierre Labossiere. The video explores the life of Charles Deslondes and his impact on the fight for freedom for enslaved Africans. Pierre shares how Haiti was an example to the world that enslaved Africans can fight for their freedom.

Partnering for Success

We work very closely with Haiti Action Committee allowing us to connect with the people of Haiti most directly. Haiti Action Committee is a leading news source for breaking news and analysis on the current situation in Haiti.

What we do

Justice Vanguard works closely with grassroots Haitian movements and organizers to educate our communities and conduct fundraisers. In August 2023, we hosted a one of our Community Nights. The night included first-hand accounts from those in Haiti, a documentary (Harvest of Hope), a panel discussion featuring Pierre Labossiere (Haiti Action Committee), and an art show fundraiser with Emory Douglas (Black Panther Artist). Over 40 people attended this event and we raised more than $3,000.

Where are we sending the money?

Funds go the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund that makes sure every penny goes to grassroots schools and healthcare clinics on the ground in Haiti.
